The future of toothpaste?

July 27, 2016

You may be wondering why toothpaste needs improving. The truth is, toothpaste tubes take an estimated 500 years to decompose because they are made to last. And yet the average household goes through one toothpaste tube per month—that’s a lot of tubes in the trash.

According to an article in Gizmag, there is a new product coming to the market that eliminates toothpaste tubes altogether.

Poppits packages single-use amounts of toothpaste in a small, waste-free pod that dissolves in the mouth. The water-soluble toothpaste pod is made from an edible plant-derived cellulose and filled with the dentist recommended amount of toothpaste. Poppits come with 90 single use servings and are said to be more hygienic than traditional toothpaste tubes because there is no contact with the toothbrush.

Kickstarter-funded Poppits are scheduled for release by October 2016.
