Data Management in the Cloud Can Be Good for Small Businesses

Small businesses in the healthcare industry need to be sure that their data is secure and accessible at any time. Because of this, migrating to the cloud may help these organizations improve their data management capabilities.

Many small businesses are already trying out different services within the cloud to see which best fits their organization. More than two-thirds of IT managers have already begun implementing Software-as-a-Service, while nearly one-third are using Platform- or Infrastructure-as-a-Service, according to a recent study from CompTIA.

With an additional one-third of surveyed organizations planning to use PaaS or IaaS, this shows that the companies are beginning to see that the cloud can benefit their data management techniques, the news source reported.

"With the percentage of people we see that are planning on moving into infrastructure or platform, we think that really signifies a more complex use of the cloud and companies beginning to invest more of their IT strategy in the cloud or probably, even beginning new capabilities in the cloud," Seth Robinson, one of the authors of the CompTIA survey, said.

According to a Gartner Group study, global cloud-related purchases are expected to reach almost $150 billion by 2014. This shows that organizations are becoming more aware of the benefits that the cloud provides
